James H. Martindale started Martco, Inc. in 1967 with 3 employees in an office in downtown Middletown, after leaving his position as Manager of Engineering at Black Clawson’s Shartle/Pandia Division. Martco specializes in furnishing new components, rebuilds and repairs to the paper industry, producing equipment in both the stock prep and paper machine areas.

In 1973 Martco moved from the original downtown office to its current manufacturing facility on Yankee Road in Middletown. Successfully meeting the needs of the paper industry by delivering cost-effective components, Martco’s growth over the next 40 years required three plant expansions.

In 1998 the company was sold to Ray McIntosh and Tom Bake, the former VP/General Manager and former VP/Sales Manager of Martco, Inc. and became MTR Martco. MTR Martco grew from 18 employees at the time of the sale to the current level of over 45 employees.

A new plant was built in 2002, increasing facilities to 20,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and 2,500 sq. ft. of office space. With the acquisition of Orman’s Welding in 2005, Martco grew again increasing the employee roster  and adding another 16,000 square feet of production space.

The acquisition of Orman’s also added manufacturing and repair expertise in steel, stainless steel and aluminum fabrication,  skills and services that have facilitated Martco growth in paper mill and steel markets.

MTR Martco’s continuing sales efforts have expanded their customer base to include the United States, Canada, Mexico and China.
